FABRIQUE - DOMESTICIS

"Fabricae Domesticis" is that whihc it is…to create, to manipulate at home.

This phrase embodies a clever pun, as our domestic affairs are inherently private and at the same time, the use of fabric is both intensely personal and inherently collective. The material, so essential, can also appear frivolous.

Our engagement with fabrics stretches back through the annals of history, perhaps even to the fall of Adam. Thus, fabric exists in a moral dichotomy, at once sinful and protective, capable of evoking character and personality or compelling institutional conformity. Consequently, the study of "Fabricae" straddles the personal and the institutional, evoking emotions while adhering to formality. It lacks a prescribed path, relying instead on the artist's intimate knowledge of domestic life and its cultural resonances. The artist intends to engage in the ongoing discourse of "fluidity" and how art inherently marks time and space, serving as a signifier of identity.

The term "domestic" takes on a multiplicity of meanings, resonating on various cognitive levels. Ultimately, it emerges as a creation in its own right, akin to a pair of birds constructing their spring nest. The exploration of the domestic sphere is a journey that traverses the physical and the psychological, marrying the emotive with the mechanical.

It becomes evident that a direct correlation exists between the domestic mind and the fabrics woven into the tapestry of everyday life.
